'Weekender' Finds Ideal Solution at Bayhorse Gazebos & Barns

Cohen Garage

This Amish-built two-bay garage with a full second floor provided an ideal set-up for Hudson Valley “weekender” Ron Cohen.

Bayhorse Gazebos & Barns in Red Hook has been selling hand-crafted Amish buildings, furniture and outdoor décor since 1989. They offer a full line of Amish-built sheds, gazebos, garages, chicken coops, horse barns, run-ins, lean-to buildings, outdoor furniture, outdoor décor and swing sets.

One of those Amish-built two-bay garages with a full second floor turned out to be just what Ron Cohen needed. Cohen is a "weekender" in the Hudson Valley and has a 20-acre property where he plans on building a house in the future. But for the present time, he just needed a garage for his tools and workshop as a base of operation.

Cohen drives by the Bayhorse display just off Rt. 199 when he comes off the Taconic State Parkway to his
property in Dutchess County. So, one day he decided to drop in for a visit.

He found owner Gerry Thorpe to be "very knowledgeable and a nice guy to do business with." He said Gerry is "very low pressure. He took care of all the permits and arranged the concrete work as well. He made it easy for me, which is important because I live in New Jersey."

Watch Our Garage Building Videos!Cohen said he enjoyed watching the young Amish men build and install the garage. "They did it all in two days. They were super nice guys with incredible workmanship and work ethic. Kind of like yesteryear."

Cohen said the entire process of working with Gerry at Bayhorse "was a positive and pleasurable experience." Best of all, he has the building he wanted and it was "a one-stop arrangement, so I didn't have to micromanage the process."
