Exacting Specs for a New Garage – Challenge Met by Bayhorse

Droege Garage

When a couple in Columbia County first started searching for a new two-story, two-car garage for their property, they did not expect to find a company just 20 – 30 minutes away that could give them what they were looking for.  They had a very exacting set of specifications to meet and were pleased to discover that Bayhorse Gazebos & Barns in Red Hook, NY could meet the challenge.

They carefully explained their requirements to Gerry Thorpe at Bayhorse and also consulted directly with the Amish builders.   To match two existing homes on the property, the new garage would need a metal roof with a very steep pitch.  Clapboard siding was a must and Bayhorse was also provided paint codes to match up the paint and time colors.

The process started with a standard building design that already met most of their requirements with two garage bays, an open floor plan, stairs up to a second floor for a new workshop, windows and a barn-style entry door.  They incorporated upgraded carriage-style garage doors, extra windows, the steep metal roof and clapboard siding and had a plan for the new garage.

“The Amish are wonderful people.  Watching them work was like magic.  They put up siding faster than I had thought possible and they almost never stopped to take a break. Watching two or three men installing clapboard siding and trim without even saying a word was truly remarkable. They knew what to do and just flew through the work.” They worked so fast that the entire custom garage project was completed in just two days.

Bayhorse does it’s best to provide what they call the full-service experience.   “We started making trips to meet with building and zoning officers to secure permits on behalf of our customers. Then we built a relationship with an architect who does our drawings for everything from a small shed to a two-story garage. Now we have concrete vendors and masons for garage foundations and our own equipment to move materials to a customer’s property and build a pad for a shed or gazebo,” Thorpe explained.
